Graduate Student Breakfasts – The Student Section sponsors a graduate student breakfast at the annual meeting of the AAHM. These activities provide a forum for graduate, medical, and professional students working in some aspect of the history of medicine or health to meet, socialize, and discuss their work.
Joint Atlantic Seminar for the History of Medicine (JAS-Med, or JASHM) – Closely related to the work of the Student Section is our annual conference, held at a different university each year to promote the scholarship of graduate students in the history of medicine and health. Conceived as a “conference by, of, and for graduate students,” the Joint Atlantic Seminar is now entering its sixth year in existence. Successful meetings have been held at such universities as Johns Hopkins, Harvard, Yale, and the University of Pennsylvania. We strongly encourage graduate students interested in sharing their research with other junior scholars to submit abstracts, usually in the summer before the conference, which usually takes place in the last weekend of September or first weekend of October.
